Hidden in the darkness a figure stood alone beneath the setting sun. Large moon like yellow eyes blinked against the light as it crept through the branches and found him. Sighing, the figure shifted out of the trees and revealed a handsome young wolf. To many he was known as the Shattered Pack Alpha, but in the grand spectrum of the world he was no more than a whisper in the wind.
Pitch let his tongue dangle lazily out of the side of his mouth and he trotted off again into the trees to try and pick up a rabbit or something of that nature on his way back to the pack. His first two moons as leader had gone rather smoothly, but now there was a pressure to find a mate and carry on his legacy though the pack.
Dipping back his head he howled out a hopeful cry that perhaps some of his packmates would be up for a hunt, that way instead of a lousy rabbit he just might be able to bring down a deer. Cocking his head to the side he waited, listening for a reply to carry over the cliffs.

Captor woke up suddenly, hearing a long, haunting howl that had been carried out farther north up the side of the cliffs. She was sure the howl came from a wolf on the same side she was on, though. Her temporary bed had been a surprisingly soft, comfy nest of pine needles, situated under a stout, towering pine tree. She stood up, stretching her legs and letting out a silent, yet long yawn. The snow-white wolf shook the hitch-hiking pine needles off her coat.
Captor took a deep breath, and as she bowed her head, she began an enduring howl that got more boisterous as her muzzle rose higher. The lanky she-wolf slowly let her head fall back down, and set off in a leisurely yet quick kind of gait that could have been called a skip or canter.

The silver and black wolf cocked his head to the side, listening intently to the reply. He instantly recognized the voice of his packmate, and fellow alpha, Captor. He whined excitedly, his tail wagging a bit in anticipation of company and he half yelped into a howl of welcomed reply. His notes sang I'm over here, come hunt with me!
His eyes scanned the brush for the familiar white coat and he picked up a trot toward the direction of her howl to meet up with her. his mind was racing with a large number of thoughts. The first being that he was glad it was she who answered his lonely call. She who he had marked as his equal. His father had chosen her as the beta female a little while before his death, and to Pitch when he took his fathers place, he saw no other more worthy of the right to rule Shattered Pack at his side.
And yet he didnt know her yet as well as he would like. Sure there was respect and chemistry between them, but Pitch had always kept close to his siblings and often found himself admiring her from affar. Not to say they hadnt spoken in the past, they were always friendly and such, he just never previously tried to make anything more of it, the pack had always seemed to come before his own happiness either out of obligation or in some cases his own free will.

Captor's pace slowed and eventually skidded to a halt as a welcomed reply howl trailed out, its notes singing "I'm over here, come hunt with me!". She could tell it was very near, and finally realized it was Pitch's voice. The silky-furred wolf began a soft walk through the undergrowth. Captor peeked through the bushes and saw the silver-and-black wolf walking right toward her.
"Did you get bored of chasing around hares?" Captor barked, just as she came to a stop, trying to avoid padding right into him. She was glad someone was looking for a wolf to accompany them in a bigger hunt. She wanted to tell him about what she'd found before she'd laid down for a nap on the bed of pine needles. The borders were being moved about ten feet south every other day, Tempest Pack's territory growing larger and Shattered Pack's smaller. Shattered Pack's prey was growing scarcer by the day. She was surely going to act on this. Captor knew who was doing it.
